It's ten years that Kevin Tomkins is back with his Sutcliffe Jugend project, exactly since he released two CDs on Cold Meat Industry's sub label Death Factory ("When Pornography Is No Longer Enough" and "The Victim As Beauty"). In these ten years they didn't released much, only a live album "Live Assault 01" on 2006 and a studio album titled "This Is The Truth", the last year. It was kinda a surprise to see a new album released on 2008 but for the pleasure of power noise lovers, here it is. PIGDADDY differences itself from the Death Factory stuff for its sound which surprisingly is less electronic than I expected as it is based on deranged guitar sounds coupled by low frequencies synth bass lines and multi layered vocal rantings (only "Dirty" is based only on vocals treatments). The six tracks of the album tend to create a crazy like atmosphere and it's like the deviated approach to sex themes is more evident. If on the old stuff (also on the Whitehouse 80's recordings) was like recorded from the rapist point of view, PIGDADDY seems to be "recorded" connecting a plug into the victim's brain. The sound is more fragmented, disturbed and disturbing.

Since the label Psycho Dynamics with the responsible man behind, the Belgian cult-musician and producer Eric van Wonterghem (MONOLITH, INSEKT), has ended the cooperation with Alfa-Matrix, the Italian label Rustblade could score immense to have him on board. At least Eric has done several additional studio work like mastering in his legendary Prodam studio, he has built the BAHNTIER/MONOLITH side-project DETUNE-X and his past MONOLITH-discography will be re-released in a special boxset through Rustblade soon. You ask, what this story has to do with ADAM X? Well, the last ADAM X album got released through the now defunct Psycho Dynamics/Alfa Matrix collaboration, and Eric of course provided the mastering also on this "State Of Limbo"-album. No matter how much bucks, praise and fame ADAM X Mitchell has earned before with his rather commercial-oriented Techno side of music, this new album hasn’t got anything to do with light-hearted chill-out Electronica. "State Of Limbo" is globally a beasty and ominous sounding Dark Electro/Industrial album, which features several excursions into the rhythmically Powernoise genre. What surprises is the fact, that ADAM X now sings on one or another track ("Programmed To Win", "Shape Takes Form" or "State Of Limbo"), quite unusual for this genre, but I like to encourage him to continue so. This album is an ideal addition for people having a fable for hammering steel rhythms ("Steel Shredder"!!!) and percussive moments, even more if the chosen sounds offer such a diversity and experimental background like on "State Of Limbo". Congrats also to Mr. Mitchell for the providing of a much better album than the last one at Alfa Matrix. Special thanks also to our Chain D.L.K. vice chief in person, Mr. Maurizio Pustianaz, for filling my heap with this great Rustblade release.

Releasing under their own label moniker Buried Electric, we like to welcome this newcomer duo. Though the band name sounds quite Russian, they are hailing out of the North-Eastern area (VA, DC, MD) of the United States. Consisting of Christian Wright (machines and programming) and Juan Monarez (lead vocals and lyrics), this duo produces a rough sort of Electro/Industrial music dealing with influences of classic Industrial acts like THROBBING GRISTLE or CONTROLLED BLEEDING, mixed with the harder Electro-sound of the early 90ies like :WUMPSCUT:, SKINNY PUPPY or VAC. And indeed, BAJSKORV offer a very explosive sort of music, which at times drifts between a straight and dancefloor-oriented attitude ("Kapital", "Side Effects") to a total chaotic wall of noise, which interrupts one or another song extremely ("No Escape"). That’s a quite interesting kind of work, it seems that they build a lot of content by chance and with an improvisational intention. So some of the songs have to walk a hard way to get back on track. That’s surely not really a smooth form of ear-candy, but it has its own rebellious kind. I would suggest them, to polish here and there some aspects of their production, but if this means, that they would cut out their Punk-like attitude, then this can’t be a serious recommendation. These talented musicians have recognized it right, that the solution to reach an authentic sound output can’t be found in to copy just another Hellectro act, so let’s congratulate them to this convincing album. Good, poisonous, but also addictive, I like to encourage them to keep on this way. And they are doing live performances, so if they invade in your area, make sure to check them out.

Another act with a quite good name finally returns on the train of the Hymen label, SOMATIC RESPONSES, the dual project of the brothers John and Paul Healy. They’ve been always thrown into that Experimental/IDM-related music genre, so there wasn’t any real reason to change this. They still produce heavy and unusual beat constructions, experimental filter, effect manipulations and a globally ruling nervousness recognizable in nearly every track. Fans of layered synth pads or at least a little melodic input will be heavily disappointed with this new 77 minutes long album. Though they are picking up some traditionally ideas like the use of a TB-303 as being a main bass line synth, the problem with this release belongs on the overwhelming use of difficult to check and dance to rhythm section. Breakbeat, Clicks’n’Dub and a doze of rough distortion destroy almost everything what could place something in like a mood. Two rather Down-Tempo like tunes with "Stranded" and "Neu" have to be picked out as a proof, that the brothers Healy have a sense for the right mixture. But generally only 2 convincing tracks out of 15 of a hammering ice-desert isn’t a fair amount.

The German area around Bielefeld seems to be quite fruitful for acts providing the rhythmically Powernoise formula, also the duo of PUNCH INC. can be counted besides SYNAPSCAPE and their uncountable side-projects into this. After some years recording for Hands Productions, PUNCH INC. have exchanged the flags and hired to Ant-Zen – at least the decision pro the market leader. And as the second hidden title of this album announces it, "206 Bones To Break", PUNCH INC. do their best to provide a top-notch harsh album filled with straight and crunchy beats and rotten effects. They don’t take any prisoners and execute the dancefloors with the speedy pieces like "Roughneck", "Arm Against" or "Fight Your Enemy". Rather mid-tempo pieces like "The Daily Round" or "Rumble" can impress through the use strange voice samples, rotating percussive penetrations and its menacing mood. Some might say, PUNCH INC. provide the state-of-art for this genre and this release is quite typical for Ant-Zen. Indeed, since the whole world awaits a new studio album of CONVERTER, the title track is that sort of a masterpiece which could come out of the rotten world of Mr. Sturgis. The invitation into this "Fightclub" is quite unfriendly and broken bones and bleeding noses are guaranteed. There’s PUNCH incorporated on this album which is a safe purchase, if you can offer only a glimpse of sense for this genre. Also check out another excellent graphic idea by S.ALT. Good stuff!
