SPECTRE: DECADE CD ANNIVERSARY COMPILATION. cd. spectre spectre-s25 how does one celebrate a decade of musical activities ? right ! by adding yet another release to the list! spectre records just became 10 and this brand new sampler is our gift to the world. the original spectre roster covers three continents and almost fourty releases, divided over three labels. and while this is way too much to choose from, any sampler would just be that : a sampler (but : a very good one). the artists on 'decade' are from canada, switzerland, united states and offcourse belgium and together they are so much more then a cross-section. iszoloscope, l'enfant terrible of industrial, ah cama-sotz, who released the first spectre ever, loss, who proves that there is a lot of harmony to be found in noise and hypnoskull, back after a year of absense. but there is more: hybryds, this morn' omina, empusae, antigen shift, mimetic fake and finally kraken, who introduce their new cd 'chagrin'. spectre is ambience, rhytmic industrial, ritual and noise : all in the darkest shade of black, hidden from the sunlight in a very special embossed cover. price: euro 7,00. HYSTERESIS. measured chaos. cd. spectre spectre-s26 until shortly, a single track on the 'angst' sampler was all the belgian project hysteresis had to offer, but that one track had more then enough quality to be invited for a full release on spectre records. 'measured chaos' counts ten tracks in just a little under an hour. an ecletic mixture of elements, ranging from distorted beats, basslines and industrial to urban influences and layers of noisey drones as well as symphonic sounds. titles like 'deepthroataches' and 'slutfuckers' reveal their chaotic side, while the almost epic 'breinspoeling' emphasizes the fact that this cd will not be the last we'll hear from hysteresis. a multitude of samples from all over the musical spectrum ensures that there is something to be found for everyone on this disc. therefore it is a true 'measured chaos'. special paper sleeve. price: euro 7,00. KRAKEN. drift. cd. spectre spectre-s27 trilogies always come in three parts, that is why they're called trilogies. and just like the latest two kraken releases, the new album 'drift' also comes in a minimal designed black and white cardboard cover. which brings us to the conclusion that together with 'amore' and 'chagrin', the kraken trilogy on spectre has been completed. amongst the multiple meanings of the dutch 'drift' there is 'temper' and 'impulse' which are the emotional layers on this cd, but it also reflects to a ship being uncontrolable. as all tracks are related to oceans and oceanlife (amongst them are 'fighting with cachalot', 'whalebones are not umbrella's' and 'sushi is murder') we can see what upsets kraken. and the music fits their anger perfectly; a layering of dark ambience and deep opressive drones, spoken word in various languages and a pinch of noise. three emotions were kraken's guideline while writing the trilogy and 'drift' definitly is the most inhospitable and threatning of them. this third journey through the deepest caverns of their minds revealed a truth, more gross and repulsive than anyone can imagine. it's a small black hole which swallows everything, including hope. let us find it and burn it ... price: euro 7,00. SKINCAGE. things fall apart. cd. spectre spectre-s28 it took jon ray six years to create his second cd. and after those six years he took a bit of distance to his works and he saw it was good. spectre records is proud to present 'things fall apart', that 'difficult' second release by the project skincage. in twelve tracks you are given a tour through the mind of skincage, a tour among things that did, will or could fall apart. 'bhopal' and 'chernobyl' already reached an impressive level of destruction, while 'hungry ghosts' are still unaware of their new existance. HYSTERESIS. will + representation. cd. spectre spectre-s31 it has been two years since hysteresis surprised friend and foe with their debut release 'measures chaos', which was also presented by spectre records. and the dynamic duo hasn't been doing nothing between then and now ... 'will + representation' is even more eclectic and chaotic as the first album, resulting in a mixture ranging from breakbeats and ragga to metal and industrial. tracks where neither the prodigy, nor - at moments - fear factory would feel any shame for having written it. and all that on one album, without ever loosing that specific touch of hysteresis. so what is that specific 'touch of hysteresis'? well, even though there are kazillion books written on the scientific meaning, it suffices to summorize them as 'a system that may be in any number of states, independent of the inputs to the system'. and yes, that is exactly what hysteresis is all about. you can expect anything musically possible, but the guys behind it don't give a f*ck because they are who they are and they do what they do best. it must be said that hysteresis is one of the best hidden secrets in belgium, but 'will + representation' might very well change that. price: euro 7,00. BIG JOAN. the flood ep. cd. blood red sounds red007 the flood' is a collaboration between bristol-based diy rhythm fiends big joan and a bunch of lunatics who were invited to abuse their master tapes. the e.p includes the first two new studio tracks from big joan since 2004. title track 'here comes the flood' is a relentless, pounding, dancehall-inspired groove which builds towards a climax of apocalyptic noise and rampant dustbin percussion. EU. mandarines. 10". delikatessen records plate 7 'mandarins are a most popular food for christmas time in russia - our grandparents even had this tradition. of course there are lot of other dishes but somehow mandarins and their fragrance is a kind of symbol of the new year holidays…such a bright colored fruit full of vitamins.' - eu. is it june already? not here it ain’t! it’s new year’s eve at the deli and eu is in the house, so put your melons in the air and shake ‘em like you just don’t care! ooops, wrong fruit group. it don’t matter though, ‘cos everyone at delikatessen is partying like it’s 1999 after learning the next 10-inch plate is none other than those citrus-lovin’ fools eu! ripe with vintage synth juice that’s sticky-sweet and healthy to boot, eu’s mandarines unloads four zesty tracks that’ll jack your body and your immune system at the same time. just check the mysterioso synth vibe of 'blizzard' on the a1, a blend of frigid atmospheric treatments and funky bass groove that’s strikingly warm despite its chilly name. 'ruw' peels off that synth skin into beat rinds that positively pop with digital energy, while charming theremin sounds buzz around overhead like happy fireflies on a summer’s eve. flip eu’s plate over and things get a little crisp with 'snowstorm,' a gentle, cool digital beat wrapped up in a mist of long tone strokes that will surely appeal to fans of early autechre and the black dog, not to mention fans of another delikatessen artist, funckarma, and their brilliant plate bourbon sounds. last but certainly not least is 'frost,' a meditative, somber track that reaches through a smooth ambient landscape, organically extending minimal sonic effects into a lush electro melody with lots of dramatic tang. so join in the celebration with everyone at delikatessen - grab eu’s mandarines and get your fruit on! about the chefs: eu’s alexander zaitsev and ilya baramiya hail from st. petersburg, russia - meaning they don’t see a lot of fruit trees in the flesh, but rest assured they’ve both downed enough mandarins in their day to be citrus experts. the duo began recording in 1997 as eu, which according to the boys is 'just the first letters of our russian name…in russian it sounds like ‘yolochnye igrooshki,’ which means ‘christmas decoration,’ like bubbles of colored glass on christmas trees.' first were a few cassette releases in russia then their compilation appearance with fellow russian electronic artists solar x, novel 23, and fizzarum on artefacts, and their first cd, eu_soft, both on the famed art-tek label in moscow. soon england’s pause_2 caught wind of the duo’s fresh synth sound and next thing you know, their wienn/srez 7-inch was nme’s 'single of the week.' of course, that wasn’t a big enough bowl of fruit for zaitsev and baramiya, who went on to release two albums on pause_2, 2000’s reframing and 2002’s warm math, as well as connecting with lo recordings to help assemble the highly respected ru.electronic compilation. delikatessen is proud to have such a fruitful connection with the talented eu. price: euro 4,04.
