With next year being the 25th Anniversary of the label’s founding, Katabatik has been ramping up a comeback with a bevy of new digital releases. An album a month is no easy task, but the collective has stirred up quite the roster with drops from new artists (such as Hemadaxis) and label mainstays (Nezzy Idy, Atlea, Ceremonial Abyss).
Often overshadowed but never defeated, the longevity of Katabatik speaks volumes to its presence. Let’s consider the details: 25 years of live-electronics-focused soundsystem culture, collaborations with European artists such as Rude 66, Column One and Ekman, Mutek appearances, countless CD-R exchanges, and an endless web of of listeners, artists, and outsiders seeking dark electronic music that rests easily in opposition to trends of the mainstream. Arriving eight years after the start of Bunker Records, ten years ahead of L.I.E.S., and yet here we are… still underground! What more can you ask for? Well… have you heard about the Konclave?
Presented as “a weekend of live electronics, DJs, camping and revelry in the Katabatik tradition,” this year’s Konclave will be held at Red Hawk Avalon in Pe Ell, WA, August 16-18. Live performers include: Atlea, Bill Converse, Cube, Future Blondes, and Only Now, among many other exciting hardware artists. Attendees can also expect a smorgasbord of DJs and visual artists, a nightly shared meal, and above all, the lush forest setting provided by Red Hawk Avalon.
