Tysma’s music inhabits the space between contemporary classical composition, ambient electronics and cinematic sound. Piano, modular synth and immersive textures anchor a body of work devoted to memory, transformation and the emotional landscapes that shape our lives. Parallels follows Children of Trinoom (2022) and Hana (2024), and Tysma describes it as his most personal work to date.
The album took shape over several years of near-constant movement for the artist, and also medical doctor. Tysma toured Europe in support of Yann Tiersen, playing venues including London’s Barbican Centre, and collaborated with artists from other disciplines. He also spent time as composer-in-residence at the home of Dutch minimalist Simeon ten Holt and recorded at Berlin’s Funkhaus studios. All of this happened alongside Tysma’s parallel career as a medical doctor. Perhaps it is this double life in music and medicine that lends Parallels its depth, and marks it as a compelling next chapter for one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary classical and ambient music.
Across its seven pieces, the Parallels unfolds as a series of interconnected emotional landscapes. Recurring musical ideas drift through shifting harmonic and rhythmic settings, where subtle variations open new perspectives and quietly suggest that even the smallest shift can lead somewhere unexpected.
