'80s synth-pop band Chemistry Set (originally from New Jersey) will be releasing the first new track in 40 years on October 4, 2026, a song called “Forgotten.” This is the first in a series of bi-coastal collaborations by Terry Kennedy (San Diego, CA area) and Steve Mecca (upstate New York). Previously the duo released an album of Chemistry Set songs titled 'Experiments From The Lab' in 2023 (reviewed here at Chain D.L.K.) plus several “songs from the vault,” demo recordings also made back in the 1980s.
“Forgotten” is a bit of a departure from their bubbly style of ‘80s synth-pop being more in the noir jazz downtempo trip hop vein, with more in common with such artists as Portishead, Massive Attack, Morcheeba, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. Atmospherically, the song is as dark and moody as the cover picture. The music was largely composed by Steve Mecca with Terry Kennedy creating the melody and handling all vocals and mixing. The mastering was done by Grammy Award winning mastering engineer, Jonas W. K. from Los Angeles. This will be a digital-only release available on most DSPs and Chemistry Set’s Bandcamp site on October 4th. More releases are planned to follow in the months after.
