Conversion dives into the shared musical roots of both artists, reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens. The album moves between atmospheric stillness and depth, while blending ambient expansiveness, dub-inspired detail, and the kind of spatial awareness that both Markus Guentner and Joachim Spieth have long been known for. Floating pads, resonant basslines, and sculpted percussive accents create a sound world that feels both introspective and immense.
The newly released visualisers each feature a unique morphing image designed by Markus Guentner to compliment the sonic nuances of each track. The result is a unified visual album experience that enhances the meditative and cinematic qualities of Conversion. Markus Guentner has been creating abstract, textured designs for the AFFIN label for a few years now as album art, and these visualisers feel like a natural progression of his work.
Markus Guentner and Joachim Spieth artists are integral to Germany’s Kompakt legacy, having contributed to Wolfgang Voigt’s influential Pop Ambient series in the early 2000s. Since then, Guentner has expanded his atmospheric signature through releases on A Strangely Isolated Place, while Spieth has developed his Affin label into a reference point for deep, hypnotic techno and ambient soundscapes. Their joint work as Guentner + Spieth builds on this foundation, bridging decades of experience into a cohesive artistic dialogue between the two artists, who are both based in small towns in Southern Germany.
Conversion stands as a finely tuned exploration of texture, tone, and emotional space that is equally suited for introspective listening or late-night immersion. The full set of visual tracks is now available on the official Guentner + Spieth YouTube channel, offering an expanded and visual way to experience the album’s layered beauty.
