Hatif’s “Direction” Drifts Through Uncertainty and Motion

Something is shifting. The ground underfoot isn’t as steady as it seemed. Stockholm-based electronic duo Hatif releases “Direction,” the last single before their upcoming album Small States arrives in spring 2025. Following “Broken Bucket,” “Dreams Are Alive,” and “Take the Bait,” the track builds tension with cutting vocals, pulsing synths, and a throbbing beat.

“Direction” drifts between uncertainty and introspection, with a sense of restlessness running through it. The vocals circle around the subject, at times questioning, at times defining it, while steady, dense rhythms push the song forward, like something unfolding in real time.

As Small States approaches, “Direction” stands at the threshold. A visualizer accompanying the release reflects these ideas through shifting light and looping, fleeting sequences.
