Ibero-American composer and ambient experimentalist Rafael Anton Irisarri will release a new album, Points of Inaccessibility, on February 6, 2026. The record was born from sessions inside the former Pieter Baan Centre in Utrecht, a psychiatric prison whose charged atmosphere shaped the project’s sound and tone. Irisarri spent days improvising long, bowed guitar drones in the building’s quiet, working alongside Dutch visual artist Jaco Schilp, who was developing real-time point cloud projections for their A/V performances. Though the collaboration sparked the material, the album stands as Irisarri’s own work, composed and completed afterward in his New York studio.

Speaking about the project’s themes, Irisarri said: “Points of Inaccessibility came from thinking about how disconnection feels in an age obsessed with connection. We are constantly online, constantly visible, yet we drift further apart. The real distance isn’t geographic anymore, it’s emotional.”

Reflecting on the recording site, he added: “Inside that old psychiatric prison in Utrecht, the air felt heavy with the residue of other lives. The sound carried traces of silence, as if the walls remembered things that had been forgotten. It made me aware that every frequency holds a ghost.”

The album probes a deeper cultural unease. “We mistake connectivity for community,” he said. “The more we share, the less we seem to feel. This album is about that strange loneliness that hides inside constant communication, a loneliness that hums quietly beneath the surface of everything.”

He continued: “The record isn’t nostalgic. It’s about the way the present is haunted by all the futures that never arrived. We live inside systems that promise connection but deliver repetition. Everything loops, nothing resolves.”

Points of Inaccessibility is out February 6, 2026 via Black Knoll Editions on BioVinyl.
