The Brand New EP from Deadlight Dance “Chapter & Verse” is out Friday 13th September.

“Chapter & Verse” sees Deadlight Dance return to writing original songs, following on from March’s ambitious “The Wiltshire Gothic” project. Almost a year to the day since the band’s critically acclaimed debut album “…Beyond Reverence” was released. It also sees a return to the full band sound that the duo make.

The format of “Chapter and Verse” is a nod to the 1980s classic EPs that the band grew up with. A theme of literary characters runs throughout the EP. From Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451” through to some of Orwell’s finest work and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, the band picked work that captured their imagination when they were growing up.

Montag – based on the lead character of Ray Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451”.

Rosemary – based on the put on girlfriend in George Orwell’s “Keep the Aspidistra Flying”.

Charrington – based upon the bookshop owner in George Orwell’s “1984”. This song continues Deadlight Dance’s occasionally theme of having instrumental songs.

Judas – based upon lost passages of the Bible that were re-written centuries ago.

Monster – based upon the creature in Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein”.

“Chapter & Verse” streams worldwide across all platforms from Friday 13th September 2024. A limited edition CD is available from the band’s Bandcamp page. The release will be preceded by a video on the band’s YouTube page for “Montag”. This continues the long collaboration that the band have enjoyed with “Haunting the Atom” since before the first single. “Chapter & Verse” was written in 2024 by Deadlight Dance. It was recorded at Mooncalf Studio in Wiltshire by Nick Beere, in July 2024.

A new chapter for the self-styled Wiltshire Gothic.

New to Deadlight Dance?

Deadlight Dance was formed in Wiltshire over lockdown 2020. Tim and Nick had previously played together in a Sixth Form Goth band, back in 1989. They were inspired by bands of the time like The Cure, Sisters of Mercy and All About Eve. Over the years they have worked together on a handful of different bands but Deadlight Dance is the project they have really found their musical voice.

The band have played across England, from Lancaster to London, Bristol to most of their home county. They have done over 60 shows. They have supported such Goth stalwarts as Ghost Dance, the Faces of Sarah and The Glass House Museum. The debut album gained them airplay all over Europe and America. They followed this album with a live acoustic album and film called “The Wiltshire Gothic” which was recorded in a Saxon Church! This saw them playing versions of some of their favourite songs by artists like Joy Division, Fields of the Nephilim and The Cult. This was to reflect some of the local shows they did locally. “Chapter and Verse” sees the band back and focused on the music that they write for themselves.

Deadlight Dance are;

Nick Fletcher – vocals, 6 & 12 string guitar, mandocello, keyboards and drums.

Tim Emery – bass vi, mandocello, bass, keyboards, vocals, drums and 12 string guitar.
