I started playing bass in the late ’80s, starting out in a band that mixed hardcore and rap before moving toward projects influenced by Fugazi, Hüsker Dü, and Black Sabbath. I spent the last few years in sludge/screamo bands, until 2019 when COVID and band dynamics kept me away from playing live.
Electronic music has always run parallel to this. At night, I used to let myself get hypnotized by late-night shows on Radio Rai, Radio 2, and Radio 3, where I discovered Autechre and Aphex Twin. Kraftwerk introduced me to synths, which led me all the way back to Stockhausen’s early experiments.
During COVID, I started composing on a DAW, but projects always stayed open, never finished. This year, I finally built up the courage to release F/T/W under the moniker S4/.
The project stems from the need to give a sonic shape to what is happening around us. Wars, capitalism, the resurgence of fascism, the genocide of the Palestinian people. It’s a way to process and share what hurts to witness. The sound is intentionally abrasive, built on field recordings, glitches, and dark ambient.
