Diary of Dreams: Freak Perfume

Title: Freak Perfume
Format: CD
Label: Accession Records
For those of you who decided the August 6th domestic date of this CD is too far away, I say you're right!
Keeping to his promise, Adrian Hates delivers yet another disc of raw emotive power, uniquely dark classic-tinged electronic ambience, and enigmatic lyrics ("Emotion dealers that have not learned to cry liquid pearls" from Traum:A,or Dream:A in English). Adrian explores new vocal styles including a soft flowing voice that seems very unlike his super deep bass vocal style of usual. Still, his vocal style blasts with a powerful turret of emotion layred on top of almost Anne Sexton-crossed-with-Death in June type metaphors. This is a guy who could tell you he's cooking you breakfast and make you cry out loud at the same time, his vocals are that emotional and incomparable. Even a couple of German tracks, which was missed on the last CD. Highlights are TRAUM:A,THE CURSE,BASTARD,VERDICT,AND SHE AND HER DARKNESS. While not as strong as his magnum opus,One of 18 Angels, this is definitely a strong buy, as well as anything by DOD and his old band,Garden of Delight. Rating:10++++++

Title: Goth's Paradise V – The Black Book
Format: CD x 2 (double CD)
Label: Orkus
Distributor: Audioglobe
Ok, you should be familiar with Orkus periodical who's who of the gothic scene – this compilation follows the usual technical characteristics of the series: double cd chock-full of tracks, digipack sleeve, a booklet with succint song information, and cemetery photos all around. Music seems to be equally distributed between dark/goth and electro/EBM and I think all tracks are released stuff from the bands' latest records, or alternative versions/remixes from ep's. Thus said, here are some of the names featured: Lacrimosa, L'ame Immortelle (special prize for "most ubiquitous project": I still have to find one of these samplers without them, eheh), ASP, Lost Signal, Clan of Xymox, Tanzwut, Impressions of Winter, BlutEngel, Hocico, Paradise Lost, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Corvus Corax and a dozen others.

Grendel: End Of Ages

Title: End Of Ages
Format: CD EP
Grendel is a promising band from Holland that has matured a lot with this disc. Harsh sounds and catchy melodies can be discovered in the eight tracks on this EP. Besides the original of End Of Ages, there are two other versions by God Module and Pfusch Japscat. Further more you will also find a remix of Corroding Conscience by Feindflug. The lyrics of End Of Ages revolve around treating or already urgent catastrophes and dangers of mankind. This is another highly interesting band for the future. They keep surprising the listener with new ideas. The music sounds very easy but it is danceable and catchy as hell.

Chaos Engine: Escape Ferocity

Title: Escape Ferocity
Format: CD
The first thing you notice when you get the album is that there are 23 tracks on this disc. While listening you discover that a lot of them are little pieces between the songs (14 are the actual songs). The Chaos Engine is and UK based industrial rock band that plays their music in a way Pop Will Eat Itself would do these days. Still, it takes some time to get used to the vocals. The addition of a second guitarist to the bands line-up introduces the first guitar solo on a Chaos Engine album ever. Songs I would like to recommend are Me & My Army, Jesus Christ V2.0 Custom Built For Anger, Go Offline and the opening and title track Escape Ferocity.
