I was unfamiliar with this project, but TL0741 is the work of Virginia-based artist Pat Gillis. The label describes this as “New agitations and atmospheres for your earheadspace.” I don't know much about the project otherwise, but I know that I really enjoyed it. When I find myself thinking that I'd like to do a split with this artist, that's usually a pretty good sign.

This could best be described as “atmospheric noise,.” With overdriven analog synth and feedback with field recordings and other noises built into it. This is not harsh noise. In fact, this was quite pleasurable to listen to, even for those of us who actually enjoy it a little harsher. This is a great combination of dark ambient and noise. What makes it use what makes it really particularly interesting is the skillful use of dynamics and the pieces seem carefully composed rather than haphazardly thrown together. This is not chaotic; one gets the sense that this each choice is intentional and the compositions work quite well. There are a wide variety of feelings in this album. Some, like “Eased,” have a beat running through it but not really anything you could dance to. Overall this is quite good and well worth picking up for those who like their dark ambient a little bit noisy or their noise a little bit more ambient because this album splits the difference between both in a way that's rather satisfying.
