Vance Orchestra is one of those bands that I always meant to pick up, but other than sharing some compilation space with them a few times, had not heard much of. This duo consists of Robert Deters & Mars F. Wellink, and the band seems to be recently resurrected according to the label. Other than that, there is not much info on the group, so let’s just get into the music.

This disc consists of three untitled tracks. The first track has random noises, bits of radio, the sounds of ripping paper, heavy, pulsing bass drone, and what sounds like sounds run backwards all come together to create an interesting soundscape. The only words I could make out were "help me," several times throughout. Next we have a more minimalist approach, but still interesting. Everything is buried under a thick layer of static, as other sounds come through. Field recordings towards the end give you the feeling of watching an empty street from the shadows. Finally, we have a thick slab of drone which piles on layer after layer.

Overall, this is an interesting disc, and I really enjoyed the cut up nature and use of field recordings in the first two tracks. The final track was interesting as well. Overall, a solid release and well worth checking out. This disc weighs in at around 21 minutes.
