I had no idea who CrAwE is, but Discogs says that it is the work of one Adam Colman, and the Bandcamp page describes this as “Solo Improv Dark Ambient Guitar Soundscape Dronez with occasional contributions, the sound of the impending apocalypse and fridge buzz.” Sounds like a good time, and he wouldn’t be the first to sample refrigerator buzz (check out Colder Death Now by Cruelty Campaign, in which they sampled Roger Karmanik’s refrigerator). So let’s dive into this.

This consists of two discs with one song each. First up, we have NoGodsNoMasters Parts I-III, which is a 20 minute dive into heavy drone, but this is intricately crafted and well put together. Bits of voice are buried in the mix and unintelligible. The overall effect is sort of unsettling, like a regretful memory that you have almost forgotten. The music itself is almost mournful.

The second disc consists of the 21 minute “StarinigAtAScreenSoWeDoNotHaveToWatchThePlanetDie Parts I-III.” More bits of voice submerged in the mix, but where the previous disc was more composed, this one leans more towards heavy, slowly shifting drone soundscape with a minimalist melody line running through it. Well done.

Overall, if you like your dark ambient extra dark this is well worth checking out. The tracks are well put together and nothing seems left to chance. I will look forward to see what this artist does in the future. This set weighs in at 41 minutes.
