Tenshun is the work of San Diego based artsit Jonathan Calzo, who is also the head of Skrapez label and part of the Creatures and Kilowattz crews. As for Maunarc, they hail from Reno, Nevada, and this seems to be the only release they have. Evidently, according to the label, the two are friends in real life, but that is the extent of what we know. This split consists of two untitled tracks, and there was little information in the liner notes (like none), so let's dive in.

Tenshun kicks it off with a guy saying "quack quack" and then spastic beats over a simple melody. This is broken up with an atmospheric interlude, and then it is right back to be beats. Think a slowed down Venetian Snares.

Flipping the disc over, Mannarc gives us some male vocals, drone, and a slow beat. They seem to be going for a ritualistic / eerie feel, and they manage to pull it off well.

Both of these tracks are very different in style, but they actually manage to hang together well. They both also have a bit of a lo-fi feel to them, which translates well on a 7" (which I often immediately correlate with punk releases). In short, if you are looking for something a bit different and not so cleaned up, this is worth checking out. This is limited to 166 copies on white vinyl.
