I was unfamiliar with this artist before I received this tape in the mail, but it seems he has been kicking around the experimental scene for the past 15 years or so and has an extraordinary amount of releases that he has been on. The label describes this as "primitive recording utilizing battery powered sound sources recorded. straight into a shoebox cassette deck. no mixing was applied." There is no tracklist with this tape, but the stated sound sources are ARP, tapes, contact mike, sinewave generator, tape echo, and Roland 606. Sounds like a good time, and it's nice to see actual experimental music, so let's dive right into the music.

Imagine you're listening to a radio. The problem is that it's tuned just between stations. There are moments where there is some sense of coherence, but this is obliterated by the static that overwhelms the track. At times you have shortwave interference as you end up with sweeping tones throughout. Snippets of voice peek through the static overload but everything is distorted beyond recognition. Your ears strain to hear the signal of the station that you know should be there but it never is. The overall effect is interesting and there's enough going on in the track to keep it from getting stale. Later on, it shifts gears and becomes a bit more harsh with plenty of overloaded electronics and high-pitched squalls.

Turning the tape over to side B, we end up with a significantly different feel. The tortured electronics and distorted analog noises are still present but this feels more like an actual composition than the previous track, which was a bit more cut up. This track was also considerably shorter than the previous side.

Overall this was a fun ride and an enjoyable listen. If you're looking for solid electronic noise this is one well worth picking up.
This tape weighs in at around 76 minutes.
