"Rewilding" by Basak Günak is a beautifully immersive journey into a sonic wilderness, drawing listeners into a world where whispers, whistles, and fragments of organic sound feel as ancient as they are futuristic. Known widely as AH! KOSMOS, Günak has crafted a solo album that builds on her legacy of exploring sound as a living, breathing force, merging electronic and acoustic textures into a meditative landscape. In this new work, Günak dives into themes of decay and rebirth, infusing each track with the essence of the natural world and capturing a surrealist harmony between human and ecosystem.

The album’s highlight, "Swamp", unfolds like an ambient marshland, where hints of bass clarinet and broken piano surface and recede as if submerged in water, while "Porous" feels as if it’s constructed from the earthy textures of Günak’s surroundings, transporting listeners to a contemplative space that melds urban and rural soundscapes. Recorded across a wide array of studios - from Elektronmusikstudion in Stockholm to Willem Twee Studios - "Rewilding" is meticulously crafted, yet it feels unrefined in the best way: a deliberate, organic imperfection that celebrates the raw, untamed qualities of nature.

By incorporating sounds from her sound installations and performances, such as the haunting voices featured in "The Well" (a 2020 sound installation), Günak reinterprets “Rewilding” as both a thematic and sonic process. Günak’s sonic language, formed from sine waves, a broken piano, and her signature Buchla 100 synth, doesn’t just rewild in sound but in intent: a reclaiming of lost frequencies and overlooked, fragile soundscapes. Her delicate arrangement of sounds and silences emphasizes not just the beauty of the natural world but its transient, decaying nature, a poignant nod to the impermanence of life and our fragile ecosystem.
