"The Afterlife Album" is a transfixing journey through time, space, and the natural world, steeped in rich sonic textures that evoke the 1960s’ experimental ethos while contemplating the eco-conscious urgency of today. This full-length collaboration between legendary vocalist Dorothy Moskowitz and Swedish producer Retep Folo (Peter Olof Fransson) is an enchanting, multilayered soundscape that channels psychedelic rock, early electronics, and avant-garde compositions. Moskowitz, renowned for her pioneering work in "The United States of America" (a 1967 psych-rock masterpiece, which had a strong influence on famous artists such as Stereolab, Portished and Broadcast) and subsequent explorations, brings a seasoned voice full of surreal, prophetic grace to this album. Her collaboration with Fransson is a fusion of past influences with a future-oriented vision.

The album’s 14 tracks create a spellbinding narrative through vibrant synth work, throbbing percussion, and surreal yet resonant themes of humanity’s deep connection - and disconnection - from nature. Moskowitz and Fransson employ an eclectic array of vintage gear to conjure the psychedelic sounds of artists like Mort Garson and Bruce Haack, reimagining their kaleidoscopic landscapes as existential dreamscapes. “The Black Hill Suite”, a multi-part piece within the album, is a sonic novella on ecological themes, shifting seamlessly from pastoral scenes to fierce invocations of nature’s unforgiving power, like the intense “Raging Wildfires”.

Layered, visionary, and meticulously crafted, "The Afterlife Album" feels timeless yet arrestingly relevant. Retep Folo’s inventive production gives a kaleidoscopic quality to each track, deftly blending whimsical keyboards and jagged synths with Moskowitz’s haunting vocals. The album stands as a vibrant ode to nature, a pensive meditation on our planet’s cycles, and a poignant reminder of the delicate balance we must uphold to preserve it. It’s a rare gem that both honors the legacy of psych-tinged experimentalism and boldly pushes it forward.

Just a quick note on availability of the items: the Cd version as well as the very limited edition, including a tea towel (!), are sold out, so waiting for a reissue, only the digital version is purchasable.
