I have previously reviewed several releases from Platonoff on Inner Demons, and I have enjoyed them all quite a bit. This artist hails from Saint Petersburg, Russia and let’s just say that his work is quite at home on Inner Demons with their anti-fascist bent. His work has been an interesting mix of mechanical noise and atmosphere, so let’s see what Russian World has in store for us.

We kick it off with “Russian World.” This is mechanical as hell, as we have buzzing, clanking metal, and grinding noises. But this is not haphazard, and everything seems intentionally put together. As it continues, it slows down until everything crumbles to nothing. If you enjoy the sounds of a factory falling apart, this will be right up your alley.

“Putlag” keeps the damaged machinery in play, but with a different sort of feel. Where "Russian World" was more rhythmic, "Putlag" is more abstract and atmospheric, as the track lurches back and forth between clanking metal and quieter passages.

I had said in my review of Platonoff's last entry on Inner Demons that I have yet to hear a Platonoff disc that I didn't enjoy, and the streak continues. If you like it industrial in the style of Einsturzende Neubauten or old Test Department, this will be one to pick up. This disc weighs in at around 20 minutes and is limited to 42 copies, so get it while you can.
