With "This Year in Coconuts VOL. 2", Spencer Clark - operating under the ever-evocative Monopoly Child Star Searchers moniker - delivers yet another immersive plunge into his singular, labyrinthine soundscapes. This isn’t just music; it’s an astral travelogue, a journey through temples, jungles, and fever dreams where time and place collapse into vibrant, technicolor mythologies.

The album, expertly compiled by Gonçalo F. Cardoso of Discrepant, draws from three earlier cassette releases, now seamlessly woven into a cohesive auditory expedition. Dedicated to the Temple of Isis in Pompeii, the opening tracks from "Tempio d’Iside" shimmer like sunlight filtering through ancient ruins. Ethereal synth lines and drifting ambiences conjure visions of crystalline deities and sacred rites, creating a space where memory and prophecy merge.

The middle section, sourced from "Kowloon Spider Temple", takes a sharp, kaleidoscopic turn. Clark’s trademark cascading rhythms and alien vocal snippets tumble into phantasmagoric textures, evoking a feverish, otherworldly cityscape alive with intrigue. These tracks dance between the ecstatic and the unsettling, offering a hypnotic, unclassifiable joyride that feels like catching fragments of a dream you can’t quite remember.

Closing with “From the Caves and Jungles of Apulia 3”, Clark revisits his lower-fi roots, crafting a murkier, tactile soundscape. It’s a descent into the depths - both literal and psychological - a willing surrender to the humid, echoing confines of forgotten grottos and mythic forests.

As always, Spencer Clark defies easy categorization. His work isn’t about coherence; it’s about the beauty of disarray, the thrill of disorientation. The album’s esoteric titles - “Neo-Metallic Mannequins”, “Poltergeist Forms of Praying Mantis” - feel like puzzles begging to be solved, or perhaps simply savored for their surreal poetry.

Mastered by Rashad Becker and adorned with Clark’s own artwork, this limited-edition release (only 300 LPs!) is a treasure for collectors and sonic adventurers alike. "This Year in Coconuts VOL. 2" is as eccentric as it is enchanting - a true testament to Clark’s ceaseless quest to turn sound into mythology.

Dive in, and don’t worry if you get lost. That’s the point.
