Marc Benner's latest work is less of an album and more of a fog-drenched crossroad, where each possible path dissolves into static before you can take a step. With a single, sprawling 26-minute track, "Not Sure Where To Go From Here" is an extended meditation on uncertainty, sonic disintegration, and the absurdity of trying to navigate an increasingly incomprehensible world. If the title suggests existential drift, the music itself is that drift made audible - manipulated field recordings and ASMR textures twisted into something both unsettling and strangely intimate.

Benner has been carving out a peculiar space in the experimental underground since 2001, first with the project "Dead Shall Not Have Died In Vain" (a name that sounds like a lost Samuel Beckett play) and later under his own name. He operates largely in the margins - mail art, DIY releases, and sonic explorations that seem more interested in process than resolution. His recent work leans heavily on decayed field recordings, processed through a kind of ghostly logic where even the most tactile sounds feel like they're dissolving before they can be grasped.

"Not Sure Where To Go From Here" unfolds like a slow-motion glitch in reality, a looping dream of distant machinery, breath-like whispers, and the creaks of an abandoned house stretching its bones. At times, it recalls the tactile intimacy of ASMR, but in Benner’s hands, those small, close-mic’d sounds don’t soothe - they haunt. The piece drifts between barely-there drones, rustling textures, and moments of near-silence, evoking the sensation of listening in on something that wasn’t meant to be heard.

It's tempting to call this ambient, but that implies a passivity that doesn’t quite fit. This is active listening territory - music for staring at a wall, waiting for a revelation that never quite arrives. The uncertainty baked into the title isn’t just conceptual; it’s structural, emotional, sonic. If you’re looking for answers, you won’t find them here. What you will find is a beautifully unresolved question, stretching endlessly into the void.
