I had previously reviewed two of Mademoiselle Marchand’s releases on Inner Demons and found them to be enjoyable, so I was interested to see what this release would be like. There is no description, and I still cannot find much on this artist, so let’s just dive in.
We begin with “Stopping Positions,” which is peaceful, droning bass. It doesn't really make any sudden movements, and is easy to slip into the back of your mind. “Stopping Positions II” changes gears immediately as a cicada-like high pitched buzzing enters the scene. This is augmented with various frequencies of buzzing sounds. Like cicadas, this fades in and out over the course of the track. There are other noises that enter here and there, but the cicada sounds are the star here. The overall effect is hypnotic, although this trance is broken with the incidental noises that break in periodically.
Overall, this is a good example of work that takes the approach of "find a noise that I like and run with it." If you want something with a little more variety, this may not work for you, but I generally fall into that camp and found this to be a pleasant listen. This disc weighs in at around 19 minutes.
