In the vast ocean of experimental music, where boundaries blur and genres intertwine, "Island Slang" emerges as a beacon of collaborative brilliance. This live recording, captured in 2021 at Espacio Cultural El Tanque in Tenerife, is a testament to the serendipitous convergence of two distinct musical entities: Tenerife's Lagoss and Kampala's Abagwagwa (also known as Nihiloxica).

Lagoss, the brainchild of Gonçalo F. Cardoso, Daniel García, and Mladen Kurajica, has been known for crafting sonic landscapes that evoke the mystique of imaginary islands. Their previous works, such as "Imaginary Island Music Vol.1: Canary Islands", delve deep into the realms of ambient and experimental sounds, painting auditory pictures of places that exist beyond the confines of maps.

Abagwagwa, on the other hand, brings the rhythmic vitality of East Africa to the mix. Comprising Henry Kazoma, Henry Isabirye, Jamie Mwanje, Peter Jones, and Jacob Maskell-Key, the group is renowned for their polyrhythmic prowess, blending traditional Ugandan percussion with electronic elements to create a sound that's both rooted and futuristic.

The collaboration between these two groups results in a seven-track journey that's as unpredictable as it is mesmerizing. From the opening notes of "Acháman Man" to the closing echoes of "El Sueño de Magec", the album traverses a myriad of sonic terrains. Listeners are treated to a fusion of free jazz improvisations, dub-infused rhythms, psychedelic overtones, and electronic textures, all underpinned by a relentless percussive drive.

Notably, the album features the shamanic drumming of João Pais Filipe on two tracks, adding another layer of depth to the already rich tapestry of sounds. His contributions serve as both anchor and catalyst, grounding the compositions while propelling them into uncharted territories.

What sets "Island Slang" apart is its ability to transport listeners to a realm where the real and the imagined coalesce. It's an invitation to embark on a voyage without a predetermined destination, to lose oneself in the ebb and flow of rhythms and melodies that defy categorization.

For those eager to embark on this auditory journey, the album is available for pre-order on Bandcamp, with a release date set for June 13, 2025.
