Stupre is a male/female duo coming from Strasbourg and their debut album PRICELESS has been released recently by the French label Cortex Records (label of Neon Cage Experiment, Skoyz and Wired Brain). Their sound take me back to the mid and late nineties when Velvet Acid Christ were releasing their albums for Offbeat Records. The album opens with two convincing tunes "Thirteenth lover" and "In my backroom": both of them have intriguing mysterious melodies, pounding rhythms and whispered filtered vocals. Everything works fine: the album sounds balanced and offers different nice tracks (the first six sounded good to me) but the risk to to repeat a cliché is around the corner because if the vocals melodically don't help at all and the web of synth's sounds is rich but stick on a couple of arpeggios, the result is an atmospheric track that after a couple of listening has expired its effect. If you are a lover of electro industrial e.b.m. probably you'll find other points of interest but if you are looking for something innovative, first check some tracks at their myspace page.
