This Is What I Hear When You Talk is the work of Dan Fox, who is also the man behind Inner Demons Records and the projects Loss, Fail, and a host of others. This is from the side label Tinnitus Factory, which has the slogan, "If mental illness had a soundtrack." These discs are a bit different in that they are minimally packaged and focus on the emotion Fox is trying to evoke. The general formula of TIWIHWYT is to find an interesting sound and run with it, so let's see how this works with the emotional slant of these discs.
You don't name a track "Fear Texture" without at least attempting to make it unsettling. This pretty much nails the anxiety that comes along with fear. The overall sensation is standing in the middle of a giant wasp nest as you hear them making noises just around the corner. To them, you are just another intruder that must be dealt with swiftly and without any remorse. Heavy vibrating rumble with high pitched, repetitive crackling noise. The entire composition shifts over time, keeping it interesting while the general feeling remains the same. Although this is from his texture series, it really manages to stand on its own.
This disc weighs in at 35 minutes and physical copies are limited to 6 copies (of course digital copies are unlimited and are only $1). Well worth getting.
