This Is What I Hear When You Talk is the work of Dan Fox, who is also the man behind Inner Demons Records and the projects Loss, Fail, and a host of others. This is his Harsh Noise Wall project and the general formula of TIWIHWYT is to find an interesting sound and run with it, so let's see what TIWIHWYT has in store for us this time.

Disc one is simply titled “I,” and lays down an interesting wall of noise, with a pulsing wave of static that continually washes back and forth. There are other elements that emerge throughout, making this a lot more varied than some of the work by this project. Engaging while being almost peaceful.

Disc 2 is titled “II” and takes a different approach, with hypnotic, repetitive noise loops. This is a bit more along the lines to the TIWIHWYT template, where Dan finds a nice chunk of sound and then builds a track around it. However, even this seems to evolve along the way, as the bass comes increasingly to the forefront, only to become buried again as the track progresses.

I really like the progression of this project, and it has certainly evolved from the earlier works of static static. Although there is something to be said for the idea of repetition, I prefer noise that brings in new things to keep it interesting. This manages to walk the line between these two philosophies, and does so well.
