I was unfamiliar with this Russian artist, but the name of the band is pretty funny. I couldn't find much on this artist other than a couple of Bandcamp releases, so let's just dive into the event horizon.
“Event Horizon” opens up the disc with heavy sawtooth drone that grinds away while a slow, plodding melody plays out over it. If the goal is to evoke the fear of spaghettification as one approaches the event horizon, then Noise Hangover has succeeded spectacularly. This is music written not for the stars, but for the expansive gulf of darkness in between. Solid.
“Gravitational Collapse” is the other track on the disc. I expected it to be more chaotic, but this just goes to show that collapse on a cosmic scale is different. The heavy drone remains, but it is a touch grittier with a harsher edge and feedback that almost cuts loose at times. There is a bit of static around the edges, but this ebbs and flows throughout the track.
Overall, this is quite nice, and manages to evoke a kind of ominous feeling without being too heavy handed or resorting to cheap gimmicks. This is a solid release and well worth checking out. I am looking forward to seeing what they come up with next. This disc weighs in at around 19 minutes.
