Perhaps a little name confusion here especially after the previous review. Now Macrosonic is a brand new collaboration between Joe Roemer (Macronympha) and All Brentnall (Mlehst). Guess they liked the album name so much they took it as their collaborative moniker. Same two guys though and same style CD case artwork, but a bit different formatting with three tracks this time - "Imperium" (39:50); "The World's Oldest Profession" (1:23); "Lords of Sex" (28:03). The nearly 40 minutes of "Imperium" is particularly difficult to take, being mostly brutal harsh noise, and this is the (nearly) non-stop express, not the local. Fortunately though, it does not stay at the same intensity and/or tonality throughout. That doesn't much mitigate the trauma of tons of noise pouring through your ears though. Then again, this wasn't meant to be pleasant. The brief track sandwiched in-between the two behemoths ("The World's Oldest Profession") sounds like a metallic barrel being hosed out by a powerwasher. The title track is totally different than anything preceding it, subtle and discreet at first, then a vibrating, hollowish metallic tone emerges and this becomes the sound basis (with various modifications) throughout much of the piece. At least the treble spikes of noise are toned down, but sometimes some piercing noise still pokes through. This may be a little tougher listen than the previous album titled 'Macrosonic,' but I think noise enthusiasts will appreciate it for bringing something different to the table, but not necessarily something easy to digest.
