I've reviewed a lot of Sound In Silence releases, but none by this artist before. Ludvig Cimbrelius is a Swedish musician who for over a decade has been producing music, ranging from ambient and modern classical to deep electronic and minimal dub techno, under his own name and many different aliases such as Eternell, Purl, Illuvia and others. His music has been released on many labels, including Silent Season, Dewtone Recordings, Archives, A Strangely Isolated Place, Sound In Silence, Databloem, Stereoscenic Records and many others, as well as his own labels Eternell and LILA .
'Love Letters From The Sky' consists of eight compositions of calm piano meditations resting on distant ambience, with a total duration of about 55 minutes. As an atmospheric piano album, this is mostly what you'd expect. I have to say I listened to this blind (no reading the one-sheet, no looking up the artist) and I did not realize from the first track that it was primarily a piano album, although the piano is omni-present. The first track, titled "stjÄrnhimmel," (a little more than half of the titles are in Swedish) had some minimal piano swathed in fluffy clouds and ambient synth string pads floating about, and really was a wonderful introduction. The piano started waking up in "adelaide," still with some ethereal sounds, but obviously dominant now in soft improvisation. Thereafter, "ljuset dansar på mina ögonlock" seems to confirm that we're now listening to a New Age ambient piano improvisation album. That's not a bad thing, it's just that there are so many artists doing this sort of thing that it's hard to stand out from the crowd. Although there are other atmospherics here and there (nicely done on "ingenting saknas"), this is still primarily a New Age piano album with some sonic sweetening. If that appeals to you, you will love this. As usual with SIS, this is a limited edition of 200 handmade and hand-numbered collectible copies and includes unlimited streaming of the album via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.
