FFI Digital is another project from the hardest working man in noise, Dan Fox. You may know him by one of his many other monikers: Loss, Fail, This is What I Hear When You Talk, Disconsolate, and WNW, as well as the driving force behind Inner Demons Records.

FFI Digital is completely done with software that is either free or packaged with Cubase. This leads to a very different sound palette from his other projects. For this album, we have two tracks, each weighing in at 10 minutes. Let's dive in and see what we have here.

"180119A" kicks it all off with an atmospheric track that mixes ethereal hiss and drone with high pitched squalls. The overall effect ends up being intense, but not harsh. In contrast to his usual crunchy distortion, the tones are crystal clear and piercing. Well done.

"180119B" takes it in a completely different direction. In the beginning, there is a lot of stuttering, crackling, like all that is left of the sound source is the clipping in the track. Over time it becomes more complex, with machine gun style noises that sound like a mix of fax machines and video games. What makes this track interesting is how it gains a coherent beat over time before you even realize what is happening.

FFI Digital is kind of an odd one out among Fox's many projects, but this disc demonstrates his versatility and skill in composition. If you're looking for something a bit less on the noisy side and more on the experimental side, this is well worth picking up.
