The second release on Sound In Silence by JARR, a collaborative project between British ambient guitarists Yellow6 (Jon Attwood) and Wodwo. The general style remains the same as on 'Talking About X' with a sort of a shoegaze ambient, although the compositions are different. The title of their new album, which is made up of six long-form compositions with a total duration of something more than 66 minutes, is inspired by the way a rainbow is formed. That makes sense because most of these tracks are reminiscent of the changing sky on a summer day. Like clouds, the music drifts on by in a timeless manner with only vague evidence of melodic themes. Most of it is quite pleasant, and does not require any real thought, the way true ambient music is supposed to be. '42º' is only a little noisy in places, such as "The Pavement Sparkles" but for the most part, the noise is downplayed. Like their previous release, I believe this album works best when played quietly. Another engaging album by JARR that seems effortless, but is actually sublime in its execution. The physical copy (CDr) is limited to 200 in the usual simplistically elegant SIS packaging.
