Audible Masticators is another alias of Signalstoerung, who is also known as Heptagon, Hendekagon, H7, and halo7. I really liked the Hendekagon, but was less into the Signalstoerung release on Oxidation, so I was interested to see what this one sounds like. The label states that " Audible Masticators focus on experimenting with minimalistic tools and using only a single source of sound to create a sonance." They describe the album thus: "We live in a world where everyone just complains and everyone sues. But what do we do to change things for ourselves or in general? And does what we do have an effect? Audible Masticators join the chorus of lamentations, because there's enough to complain about. And here it is: Lament." Sounds fun, so let's dive in and see what their beef is with everything.

This disc consists of three 7 minute tracks. "Lament I" kicks it off with heavy analog synth sawtooth drone and heavily processed female spoken word that is almost intelligible, but not quite. Imagine that the answering machine tape is getting eaten while you desperately try to write down the information. The overall effect is unsettling and very well done. "Lament II" is a bit more spacey, with sweeping drone and voice used mainly as atmosphere than as anything resembling words. "Lament III" closes it off with some more droning synth and repetitive male vocals and are just out of intelligible range.

What Audible Masticators does well here is sets a feeling, a tone. Things move slowly and deliberately and leave you with a vague sense of unease. In short, this is well done, and if this is what they sound like when they are complaining, I would love to hear what they are happy about. This disc weighs in at 21 minutes and is limited to 42 copies.
