Well, it has been for sure already existing a band with the name EDGE OF DAWN. But who cares – finally this German duo consisting of Mario Schumacher and Frank M. Spinath (SEABOUND) releases its debut EP. They were already active on the defunct www.mp3.com website and could earn there some first good reactions. Now signed to Dependent (and Metropolis Records for North America...) this duo presents us nine tracks and a playing time of about 43 minutes, so we have almost a real full length CD. And the presented music is well done and will surely satisfy the interested listener. EDGE OF DAWN are playing a smooth form of Electro/EBM, danceable constructed with clear vocal lines and a surprising complexity in their arrangements. Also his being in SEABOUND for Frank can be taken as a possible comparison to describe the sound of this band. The main track "The Flight (Lux)" is available here in three different versions, the original and two remixes done by AUTO AGGRESSION (surprisingly without any overwhelming distorted effects – what a pity!) and IRIS (features better worked out sounds, a dark mood - and so wins the "contest" with AUTO AGGRESSION...). As usual for an EP the whole stuff proves a strong club-friendly compatibility, and this counts also for the other main track "Losing Ground", available in the top-notch original version and a remix by Nils Schulte. There’s also a slow and calm ballad-like piece with "Descent" which includes some well played piano sounds. Add to this the two extra tracks "Elegance" and "Find A Way Out" on which they also don’t show any weakness. This whole EP points out an excellent debut and is a great appetizer for the EDGE OF DAWN full length CD in early 2006. There is also a hidden access code for unreleased material of this band available from their website. Check it out!
