According to their Bandcamp page, Platonoff hails from Saint Petersburg, Russia. Other than that, I could not find much about this artist. The notes for this release state: “Recorded via Eurorack modules (by Industrial Music Electronics, Make Noise, Erica Synths, Noise Engineering, Mutable Instruments, ALM Busy Circuits, Qu-Bit Electronix, Happy Nerding, Tiptop Audio, Xaoc Devices, WMD) in one pass without editing. To hell with politics, Gestapo will die by itself )) There is no other way here.” This gives a glimpse of what we are in for, so let's get into the music.

Disc 1 opens with “Communism Great Construction Projects,” which is a really cool mechanical composition, with a plodding beat punctuated with bits of static and hiss. This is like listening to a Rube Goldberg machine working in slow motion. It has a whimsical quality that I really enjoyed. “Railway Gulag” is a bit more ominous in sound, but keeps the mechanistic feel alive. This is the sound of a factory that continues long after some of the gears have fallen off and the humans have long been gone.

The second disc opens with “The Grapes Of Wrath,” which is more atmospheric, but retains the heavy beat. This is the sound of an entire studio's worth of analog synths being completely overdriven and abused, then run through a ton of distortion. Finally, we have “Wünderwaffle,” which is grinding, slow, and heavy. There is a looped beat of metal clanging, but this seems far less regular than in the other tracks. Towards the end, there is a lot of static and feedback that takes it all down. Nice and noisy until it fades out, still squalling.
Overall, this was some great noisy experimental that manages to keep it fun and interesting. This set weighs in at around 42 minutes.
