'Tuesdays' is the debut five-track EP from the Asbury Park-based songwriting team of former Psychic TV bassist Alice Genese and Shaune Pony Heath, who operate as Ov Stars, with some help from Jeff Bermer (another Psychic TV alumnus) - bass, acoustic & electric guitars, mellotron, B3, percussion, etc.; John Weingarten, Richard Salino, and Randy Schrager - drums & percussion. Alice and Pony trade lead and backing vocals while Pony adds some piano. As for the music, don't be expecting anything remotely Psychic TV. This is kind of languid country gothic along the lines of Mazzy Star and Cowboy Junkies. The EP was sumptuously produced, mixed and engineered by Jeff Bermer at Studio G Brooklyn & Palace Of Sports. Songs are achingly beautiful in a melancholy way, and these folks seem like they're well on their way to stardom, if the quality of the material is any indication. Every one of the five songs - 'Ov Stars," "Crying Time," "Deer Eyes," "Beautiful," and "Better Things" is really, really good, and I can't pick an absolute standout, but I do find myself a bit partial to "Ov Stars." I'm getting a bit of a Stevie Nicks vibe from Alice's voice, but I have to say both Alice's and Pony's voices blend very well together. No idea why this EP is called 'Tuedays' though.

One thing I do know is that the material here is much closer to mainstream than you might expect from anyone ever associated with Psychic TV, not that there's anything wrong with that, but it is unusual. Perhaps new fans will come about that never would have otherwise. That this album was pressed on ruby red vinyl also makes it a compelling buy.
