I have no idea who British Misery is, as there is no contact info and Discogs lists this as the only release. All we have is the music, so let’s dive in.

This disc consists of two tracks. We open with “I Am of the Opinion That the Void Can Be Terribly Wearing at Times,” which is a bit difficult to describe. Slow synth washes give it a peaceful feel that is juxtaposed with digital machine sounds, bits of static and noise, and beats that remind me of Autechre. It’s an odd mix, but I really like it.

Next up we have “Literally Everything is Shit Since David Bowie Died.” This opens with a nice slab of dark ambient soundscape. Low synth drones and a spacey feel with just a bit of sci-fi sound effects that make this a worth send-off for the Starman. This switches gears later on to bring in distorted techno beats that completely change the mood. Well done.

Overall, this is a strong opening salvo from British Misery and I will be interested to see how this project evolves. Who knew that misery could sound so pleasant? This disc weighs in at around 22 minutes and is limited to 42 copies. Highly recommended.
