Audible Masticators is yet another alias of Signalstoerung, with a focus on “minimalistic tools and using only a single source of sound to create a sonance.” The label describes this album thus: “String Theory is made from bass guitar and effects only. With a minimalist approach, the strings are set into vibration in different ways and together with various effects this creates eclectic, noisy and atmospheric sound worlds.” So let’s dive in and see if anything resonates.

We kick it off with “String Theory I,” which is heavy, plodding bass note strums with some feedback thrown in for good measure. The overall effect is hypnotic. “String Theory II” is a bit more wall of drone than the previous track, with different layers coming to the forefront in turn. This is gritty, but not really noisy. Finally, “String Theory III” closes out the release with more bass drone, but this is cleaner and more atmospheric. If you were hoping for peaceful drone, this is your track.

Overall, I like the approach (very much like Aube's single source experiments), and the execution is solid. If you are all about that bass and looking for some interesting drone, this will be up your alley.
